Jewish Food Traditions Around the World

Dr. Annette B. Fromm is a folklorist and ethnographer specializing in cultural heritage and museum studies. She earned her doctorate in Folklore from Indiana University and taught at Florida International University. Dr. Fromm has worked with institutions including the Jewish Museum of Florida and The Deering Estate and has more than twenty-five years of experience documenting ethnic traditions and community heritage.
Jewish food traditions reflect centuries of migration, adaptation, and cultural exchange. Guided by the biblical laws of kashrut, Jewish communities developed distinctive cuisines in the many countries where they lived. In Dr. Fromm’s illustrated presentation, she explores Jewish food traditions from everyday dishes to holiday and life-cycle foods, showing how cuisine preserves cultural memory and identity across the Jewish diaspora.
