Discussion of recently published book HUNGARIAN PATCHWORK

March 20 @ 4:30 pm

 Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at 4:30 PM

University of Miami, Coral Gables Campus
Miller Center Building – Contemporary Jewish Studies

A discussion is scheduled about the recently published book,

Journeys of Seven Jews from Fascism to Communism to Freedom,” edited by our senior member, Peter Tarjan with Susan V. Meschel.

Dr. Haim Shaked, the Center’s Director will moderate the event. It is a collection, or “patchwork” of personal stories by seven protagonists, who as  children outlived the Shoah in Hungary, reporting about their survival during Nazi occupation in 1944-45, followed by their lives under Stalinist communism from 1948-56, their escape following the ’56 Uprising, and their growing new roots in the Free World. Aside from the editors, George Pick is the only one alive among the protagonists today.

The work is dedicated to the others: Andrew Handler, Gabor Kalman, Peter O. Milch and Éva Székely. And for migrants everywhere who seek peace and a better life in the Free World.

The Miller Center is located at the Coral Gables Campus of the University of Miami.

The event is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.
Parking is open to all after 4 pm. Refreshments will be offered.
